How healthy are you? Today many people argue that they’re too busy to prepare healthy meals or do regular exercise. However, you can improve your health by taking some basic steps.
Here are some of them:
- Take a stroll
Walking isn’t the only exercise you should be getting, but it’s a good one because it’s slow and steady cardio. It helps to give your muscles and lungs a workout. Another plus is you don’t need any equipment except your body. You can spend some time walking around your home in the morning and your workplace at lunchtime. Walking is also a good idea right after eating because it will help to digest your food faster.
- Eat a vegetable salad
There are so many health benefits you can get from eating salads. The reason is there are tons of vitamins and minerals in raw veggies. Some people follow a “raw diet, ” but if you eat some fresh vegetables and fruits on a daily basis, you’ll help to improve your overall health. You can also add flavor with an olive oil/vinegar dressing that also provides many health benefits.
- Breathe deeply
Studies show that deep breathing, even if it’s just for 5 minutes or so can help to reduce stress levels. That will help you to have less anxiety, sleep better, and even be less likely to become overweight/obese. Breathing is essential for life, but in the hustle and bustle of modern life, we often take it for granted. Spending some time focusing on deep breathing can help to put you in the right mindset.
- Get a good night’s sleep
Studies show that if you get 7-8 hours of sleep every night, it can do wonders for your health. This is the time your body recovers from exercise and your mind processes info. If you wake up in the morning without the help of an alarm clock or another device, then it’s a sign you’ve gotten enough sleep.
- Drink more H2O
The body is about 60% water, and the brain is about 90% H2O. This highlights the importance of getting enough water throughout the day. In fact, you might be surprised that symptoms like aches and pains can be reduced by simply drinking more water. For example, you could risk a heat stroke on hot days if you suffer from dehydration. Drinking more water in such situations can help to keep you healthier.
- Drink brewed coffee/herbal tea
Many of today’s drinks like sodas, energy drinks, and even some fruit juices are loaded with white sugar. If you’re going to drink anything besides water, it’s advisable to make it brewed coffee or green tea. These drinks are loaded with antioxidants and can also help with weight loss.
- Eat some fruit
You can get all kinds of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from different kinds of fruits. Fruit is also good for various physiological functions like digestion. Make sure to mix up the types of fruits you eat. For example, apples and oranges are high in Vitamin C while bananas are high in potassium.
- Do yoga/meditation
Even if you aren’t religious, these can be useful activities for improving your health and clearing your mind. Even listening to meditation music can help clear your mind after a busy day at work, school, etc.
- Eat healthy snacks
There’s nothing wrong with snacking per se. What’s important is to make it a healthy experience. Why not try some healthy snacks like fresh/dried fruit, veggies w/ dip, granola bars, etc.? This will help to boost your blood sugar levels, give you energy, and to avoid major weight gain.
